“A defining moment in South Africa’s history wasn’t an uprising or a coup,
it was the formation of a soccer league by political prisoners during apartheid.
The same men who’d go on to govern the new South Africa,
repay the game by inviting the world to come and play it with them.”
I was watching some ESPN the other day when this commercial showed up.
and it got me real pumped for the FIFA World Cup in the summer.
I said in an earlier entry that often times “sports is more than the game itself”
and i couldn’t think of a better example than the world cup
once every four years, the world tuned in for a common cause, united as one
for a month or so, all differences are put aside
no race, religion, politics
just a celebration
stuff like that excites me
